Tall Trees and Tiny Acorns
The Pledge
Let me take you, Princess,
So softly by the hand.
Down beside the castle brook,
In this warm and pleasant land.
Nay my Lord, for I am promised,
The wedding date, it nears.
My hand is given to a stranger,
My heart, it drowns in tears.
But what of the love we shared,
In our secret glade?
Where we pledged our love dear heart,
And tender joy was made.
I must break my pledge, my Lord,
For you, tis mortal danger,
To kiss or even hold my hand.
Beware my dreadful stranger!
I'll face his sword tomorrow, my darling,
By the brook at dawn.
If victory means we'll be together,
Then bring on the coming morn!
I dare not thwart my father's wishes,
Gambling debts have sold my soul,
The Iron Prince demands this Princess,
I am the pledge, I am his goal!
New day dawned as new day must,
The duel was fought with rules unjust,
Her sweetheart, though a valiant knight,
Was not the victor of that fight.
The Princess watched in deep despair,
As flashing sword flew through the air.
No pity from the Iron Prince ,
Who thrust his sword, that love may wince.
She knelt beside her dying lover,
To vow that there would be no other,
No Iron Prince would rule her life,
She would not be his murderer's wife.
Her silver dagger touched her heart.
With final pledge, no Prince could part,
The Iron Prince was far too late,
To relieve her of her daggered state.

Hold me in your arms, my love,
As I lie dying, soon to depart.
Though my blood is spilt on earth,
Remember me in your heart.
Goodbye my first and only love,
My life is empty, woe is me!
The castle walls shall fall to ruin,
For soon I die to follow thee.
His sword has been in both of us,
And now our souls are free.
Together now for evermore,
Loving you for eternity
