The Fairytale

My dreamy fairy story was written long ago,
I was then the heroin and he my brave hero,
Once upon a time, my story book began,
I met a very handsome, and a very charming man.
Our courtship and marriage were any maiden's prayer!
A knight and his fair lady, a fairytale love, pair!
Children, shone their starlight, into our heavenly fold,
To live happily ever after,  to gradually grow old.

Home was our castle, he my knight so bold,
Everything I wished for, was story book foretold.
Then one day my fairytale, changed its destiny.
When the happily ever after, was changed eternally.

For he didn't fight a dragon, or gradually grow old,
He didn't fight a war, with the bravest and bold,
He didn't  play a halfway role, in my story book,
The angels had a special claim, when his soul, they took.

My knight in shining armour, died so long ago,
Died in the story which he didn't  read or know,
A damsel in distress, it was more than I could bear,
When modern day reality was not this maiden's prayer.

So much I didn't tell him, so much I didn't say,
He didn't read the words, written for another day,
I didn't need to say the words when time was on our side,
Sometimes, I think it lucky, that some feelings we can't hide.

He didn't say goodbye to me, although he held my hand,
He didn't stay within my book and in my fairyland,
He didn't have the time to say, "I love you, or goodbye,"
They're written in another book, one which makes me cry.

He will always be my hero, to my heart he holds the key,
Always be the fairy tale love inside of me,
So until the angels call me, to lead me by the hand,
He will always be the hero in my fairytale book land.
