Tall Trees and Tiny Acorns
The Innocence Of Childhood
Shadows in the undergrowth, in garden or in wood,
Hiding from the human race because 'tis best they should.
The world is harsh for fairy folk, 'tis filled with disbelief,
Yet in that world enchantment lives, where dragons have soft teeth.
Flying in the dead of night, hiding through the day,
Lest human form should capture them to secret them away.
Imprisoned in an old glass jar, all reason to defy.
Would they prove beyond belief, she was no butterfly?
In the images of childhood where the fairies live and hide,
Reason may be foreign, to the child we have inside.
The tooth fairy, when on her way to search for small believers,
Leaves behind a silver coin, for the soon to be deceivers.
The child is soon forgotten, enchantment soon will fade,
Until one day remembrance sees where a silver coin was laid .
The innocence of childhood, if imago could endeavour,
The enchantment that is childhood's gift, could surely last forever.
