Henry Longstaff was born approx 1856 at 2 Addison Street Bishopswearmouth and was the son of Henry and Jane Longstaff (nee Patterson). 
Henry Snr was a shopowner but the birth cert of Henry Jnr in 1856 said Henry snr was a Master Seaman in Merchant Service. Henry Jnr was a mariner.
He married Maggie Ramsay at the house of her father James Ramsay at Mornington Dunedin. On the 11th March 1878 
A daughter Margaret Jane Longstaff was born at Kensington Dunedin. 
He died at Milton on 25th June 1879 (therefore aged only about 22) of an enlarged heart and apoplexy.

Henry James was born on 12th January 1880,nearly 7mths after his father's death (Henry Ramsay). 
He was born at Wyndham not Dunedin and probably at the home of his grandfather James Ramsay who had by now moved to Wyndham where he was a miller at the local flour mills.

When he was very young his mother and the two children (older sister Margaret) moved to Dunedin.
She was possibly housekeeper for Edward Campbell who came from Dublin. 
He was married with one son but he had 5 children with Maggie.
He divorced his wife not long before he died of pneumonia in 1887.

School records from Caversham and Forbury Schools at Dunendin show Margaret and Henry as attending school under the surname of Campbell along with Edwin and Sydney.
Electoral rolls from Christchurch East 1905-06 show Sydney John and Henry living at 44 Lichfield St Christchurch.
Avon electoral roll gives Sydney at 65 Phillips Street, Linwood, Christchurch. 
Daughter of Margaret is Jessie Rusher from Lower Hutt WLG is a first cousin of my mother.
